- Freshly squeezed juice of 6 lemons
- 1 cup of granulated sugar can use unrefined cane sugar
- 6 cups of sparkling water
- Lemon slices for garnish
- Ice cubes
- A sprig of fresh mint optional, but desirable
Over medium heat, mix sugar with 1 cup of water in a saucepan, stirring until the sugar completely dissolves. Cool this simple syrup.
Squeeze out the juice from the lemons, strain it if you prefer no pulp.
In a pitcher, combine the lemon juice, simple syrup, and sparkling water. Stir well.
Slap/bruise the mint (if using) to release the oil. Add to the lemonade.
Toss in some ice cubes, garnish with lemon slices, and serve chilled.
